IBM RAMAC 305 (1956)

The IBM Random Access memory machine was announced in 1956. It was marketed as a business machine for accounting applications. The RAMAC used a disc storage unit (shown along back wall) capable of holding 5,000,000 units. It consisted of 50 magnetic metal disks arranged in a vertical stack, accessed by a read-write arm for high speed random access, online.
